International Surf Open 2023
We are excited to announce the upcoming WSL QS 3000 event, the International Surf Open-Tamilnadu, which will be held in the historic town of Mahabalipuram, located next to the ancient Shore Temple. This event is being organized by the Government of Tamil Nadu – Ministry for Sport and the Tamil Nadu Surfing Association (TNSA) under the auspices of the Surfing Federation of India (SFI).

WORLD SURFING LEAGUE (WSL)
The World Surfing League (WSL) is the governing body for professional surfers and is dedicated to showcasing the world's best surfing talent. The WSL Championship Tour is the premier tour for top surfers worldwide. Surfers from around the globe compete in the Qualifying Series (QS) events to earn points for entry into the Championship Tour.
QS Format
The Qualifying Series (QS) events provide an opportunity for surfers who are not currently eligible for the Championship Tour to compete and earn points. These points contribute towards qualifying for the following year's Championship Tour event. The QS 3000 event in Mahabalipuram will feature top surfers from Asia and Australia, attracting approximately 100 international surfers. Additionally, the WSL has generously provided wild cards for our top national surfers. The event offers a total prize money of $45,000 and 3000 tour points.
THE EAST COAST CHALLENGE
In preparation for the WSL-QS 3000 event, the Tamil Nadu Surfing Association, in collaboration with the Surfing Federation of India, will be hosting a series of three national level surf competitions called "The East Coast Challenge." These competitions will showcase the country's top surfers, and the top surfers from these events and National Rankings will receive a wild card entry for the WSL-QS 3000 event. The dates for these competitions are as follows:
1. Pondicherry Surf Open - 29th & 30th July 2023
2. Mahabalipuram Point Break Challenge - 5th & 6th August 2023
3. Covelong Classic - 12th & 13th August 2023
COVELONG CLASSIC
SURF, MUSIC, AND FITNESS FESTIVAL
The Covelong Classic – Surf, Music, and Fitness Festival, known as one of the top festivals in India, will be a part of the East Coast Qualifying Series this year. It will take place from the 12th to the 13th of August 2023 and will be hosted by the warm and enthusiastic fishing village of Kovalam. Last year, this festival attracted approximately 25,000 people over the course of two days and featured a fantastic blend of surfing, music, and fitness. This year's festival will be particularly special as it will also serve as the inauguration for the prestigious WSL QS 3000 event.
